Sachia Vickery has secured a spot into the quarter-finals of Claro Open Colsanitas in Bogotà. The 21-year-old from Florida defeated seventh seed Lourdes Dominguez Lino 6-0 2-6 6-3 to claim a spot into the last 8. The American, who was recently beaten by the Spaniard few weeks ago in Miami was able to pull out a great performance in the first set, won without losing any game.
World number 106 started strong in the second set, where she went up 3-0 and put a lot of pressure on young American, who wasn’t able to hold a service game. Vickery, however, pulled herself together in the third and she took the final break in the sixth game, sailing through her first quarter-finals appearance in 2016.
Spain took revenge on USA thanks to Silvia Soler-Espinosa, who overcome eighth seed Anna Tatishvili 6-7 6-4 6-1. The Spaniard was not able to close the first set, where she was up 5-3 and went on to serve for the set in the tenth game.
Tatishvili recovered, bringing the set to the tie-break, which she eventually won, despite being down 3-5. But when everything seemed to be sorted out for the American, her opponent found her way back into the match, recovering and winning the remaining two sets.
