Tennis- 2014 Madrid finalist Simona Halep is through to Semifinals after getting better of Irina-Camelia Begu in 3 sets whereas American qualifier Louisa Chirico also booked her place in the last 4 of the Mutua Madrid Open WTA Tournament.
In a battle of Romanians, Halep had the edge as she had not dropped a set against Begu in their previous 3 meetings. Once again Halep got off to a great start and broke Begu in the first game of the match. Halep saved all three break points in the first set and broke Begu again in the ninth game to take the first set 6-3.
After losing seventh set in a row against Halep, the 25-year-old made a remarkable comeback and won the second set 6-0. Halep was surprised but she got the control back in the third set as she broke Begu in the second game.
She broke her compatriot again in the sixth game and took the third set 6-1 to reach semifinals.for the second time in three years. Halep will face 32-year-old Australian Samantha Stosur in the semifinal, who eased past another Romanian Patricia Maria Tig in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
2011 US Open Champion Stosur and Halep have met six times, with both winning 3 times each. 19-year-old American qualifier Louisa Chirico kept her dream run going as she ousted Australia's Daria Gavrilova 7-6 (1) 6-2.
She will face former World No.10 Dominika Cibulkova next, who came back from one set down to beat Romanian wildcard Sorana Cirstea 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
