Tennis- Top seed Roberta Vinci, second seed Laura Siegemund, fifth seed Sabine Lisicki, sixth seed Misaki Doi and eighth seed Yulia Putintseva were all beaten in the second round of the 2016 Nürnberger Versicherungscup in Germany.
World No.7 Vinci faced the Dutch qualifier Kiki Bertens and got off to a flying start as she raced to a 3-0 lead. Vinci was 4-1 up but then Bertens turned the tables and won five games in a row to take the first set 6-4. In the second set Bertens broke early and was 5-3 up.
Vinci made a comeback and levelled the second set at 5-5. The set was forced into a tie-break where Vinci took 2-0 lead first but Bertens won seven out of next nine points to win the tie-break 7-4. Bertens will play USA's Irina Falconi who needed more than 2 hours to beat sixth seed Misaki Doi in 3 sets 6-3 5-7 6-4.
In the longest match of the day, Colombia's Mariana Duque-Marino edged the second seed Laura Siegemund in 3 sets 7-6 (6) 3-6 6-1. She will play USA's Varvara Lepchenko, who ousted another German, fifth seed Sabine Lisicki 6-2 7-6 (5).
Julia Goerges was the only German player to win on the day, as she knocked out the eighth seed Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan in straight sets 6-4 6-2.
