Tennis: Top seed Agnieszka Radwanska got through to the round of 16 whereas second seed Roberta Vinci, third seed Belinda Bencic and fourth seed Timea Bacsinszky were ousted in the second round of the Aegon International WTA Tournament in Eastbourne.
2008 champion, last year's finalist Radwanska faced 1999 Wimbledon semifinalist Mirjana Lucic-Baroni. The Pole did not have to do much as she won the first set 6-4 and was 2-1 up in the second set when the Croatian retired.
Radwanska will face 2014 Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard next, who eased past the 15th seed Irina-Camelia Begu in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. Second seed Roberta Vinci was also beaten in 3 sets 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 by 2010 Eastbourne champion Ekaterina Makarova, who will be up against Andrea Petkovic next, who edged the 13th seed Sara Errani in 3 sets 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. Sixth seed, 2004 champion Svetlana Kuznetsova won the first set 6-2 against Ukrainian qualifier Kateryna Bondarenko but lost the next two sets 6-4, 7-5 to go out.
Bondarenko will face 12th seed Dominika Cibulkova for a place in the last 8. The Slovakian defeated Latvian teenager Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 6-3. Third seed Belinda Bencic was also stunned by another former Eastbourne champion Elena Vesnina 7-6(4), 7-6(5). Vesnina will face American qualifier Madison Brengle, who knocked out the 14th seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-4, 6-3.
Fourth seed Timea Bacsinszky was beaten in straight sets by France's Kristina Mladenovic 6-1, 7-5. The Frenchwoman will take on Germany's Anna-Lena Friedsam, who defeated 16th seed Lucie Safarova 7-6(5), 6-4. Fifth seed, 2-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova got through to the last 16 with a 6-4, 7-6(5) win over Timea Babos.
Next up for Kvitova will be this year's Australian Open semifinalist Johanna Konta, who defeated Lesia Tsurenko 7-6(4), 6-1. Former World No.1 Caroline Wozniacki stunned the seventh seed Samantha Stosur in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 and will meet qualifier Monica Puig next.
10th seed Karolina Pliskova won in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 against Daria Gavrilova and will meet Japan's Misaki Doi next, who came back from one set down to beat the eighth seed Carla Suarez Navarro 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
