US OPEN WOMEN'S SINGLES- Serena Williams keeps marching towards record 23rd Grand Slam title

Tennis- World No.1 Serena Williams continued her journey towards the record 23rd Grand Slam title as she defeated her compatriot Vania King in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 to reach third round of the 2016 US Open. 2011 US Open champion Samantha Stosur was ousted by Shuai Zhang. Top seed Williams faced American wildcard Vania King, who she had also beaten in straight sets when they met in second round of 2014 US Open.

Once again Serena dominated King and did not face any break point in whole match as she served 13 aces. She broke King 3 times to win the match 6-3, 6-3 and will face Sweden's Johanna Larsson next. 11th seed Carla Suarez Navarro registered a straight sets 6-1, 6-4 win over former World No.1, 2008 US Open finalist Jelena Jankovic.

She will face this year's Wimbledon semifinalist, 19th seed Elena Vesnina now, who also won in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 against Germany's Annika Beck. 2011 US Open champion Samantha Stosur was knocked out by this year's Australian Open Quarterfinalist Shuai Zhang in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.

The Chinese player will face Kazakhstan's Yaroslava Shvedova, who brushed aside another Chinese Qiang Wang 6-0, 6-1. 15th seed Timea Bacsinszky was also shown exit door by USA's Varvara Lepchenko in 3 sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Lepchenko will take on Croatia's Ana Konjuh now, who defeated Japan's Kurumi Nara 6-3, 6-3.
