WTA TOKYO- Top seed Muguruza stunned, second seed Radwanska reaches semifinal

Tennis- Top seed, French Open champion Garbine Muguruza was shocked by Ukrain'e Elina Svitolina whereas second seed Agnieszka Radwanska, former World no.1 Caroline Wozniacki and Japanese qualifier Naomi Osaka also reached last 4 of the Toray Pan Pacific Open WTA Tournament in Tokyo.

World No.3 Muguruza faced World No.20 Svitolina, who she led 2-1 in head to head record but Svitolina had beaten the Spaniard in their previous meeting, earlier in Dubai this year. Once again Svitolina got off to a flying start and raced to a 5-0 lead.

Muguruza got one break back but Svitolina broke her third time to take the first set 6-2. In the second set Muguruza was too strong on her serve and did not face any break point in whole set. She needed a break only in the fifth game to take the second set 6-4 and levelled the match.

In the third set, first four service games were broken as both players were tied at 2-2. After that there was only one break of serve, which Svitolina got in the eighth game, which gave her the third set 6-3 and a place in the last 4, where she will face Japanese qualifier Naomi Osaka, who defeated Belarusian qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-3, 7-6(6).

Second seed Agnieszka Radwanska faced Olympics gold medallist Monica Puig, who had knocked out the 2-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova. Radwanska eased past her in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 and will face former world No.1 Caroline Wozniacki, who also secured a straight sets win over Polish qualifier Magda Linette 6-4, 6-3.
