In Bucharest, Carla Suarez Navarro had a great start in the Romanian event. The Spaniard player dropped off only one game to the World No. 109 Annika Beck, beaten 6-0 6-1 in just 53 minutes. Suarez won 69% first serve points, while Beck struggled a lot especially when she hit second serve as she won only four points on 15 played.
In the second round on Wednesday Carla will face Elena-Gabriela Ruse or Isabella Shinikova. Another seeded player, Ekaterina Alexandrova, advanced. The Russian beat Barbora Krejcikova 4-6 6-0 6-2 in an hour and 54 minutes, will face Dulgheru or Karatancheva next.
Cagla Buyikackay beat Polona Hercog in the third set tie-break, where she prevailed seven points to three. Hercog was up 5-3 in the third set, but she was broken at 15 in the following game. Nadia Podoroska defeated Maryna Zanevska 6-1 in the third set, she will face Tatjana Maria or Lesley Kerkhove in the second round.
Straight-sets win instead for Aliaksandra Sasnovich, who beat Irina Bara 6-4 6-4. Sasnovich will face Goerges or Glatch next. Kiki Bertens easily advanced in Gstaad. The Dutch player beat Aleksandra Krunic 6-3 6-1, and will play Anna Zaja in the second round.
The 2016 Roland Garros junior Champion Rebeka Masarova lost to Anna Kalinskaya, while Carina Witthoeft beat Soler Espinosa 6-3 7-6(5). Rebecca Sramkova and Louisa Chirico won as well. Early loss instead for the fourth seed Mona Barthel, beaten by Maria Sakkari in three sets.
