WTA Gstaad - Schnyder comes back to win, Garcia and Kontaveit through

Former World No. 7 Patty Schnyder couldn't choose better tournament to win her first match in the main draw of a WTA event for the first time since 2011. The Swiss player, who came back to compete in 2015 after a three-year absence, beat her compatriot Amra Sadikovic 6-4 6-7(7) 7-6(6) after two hours and 35 minutes.

It was an unbelievable match where Schnyder was leading 6-4 5-2. She didn't convert six match points and saved five match points, and at the end she managed to go through following a very fought battle. In the second round match Schnyder will face Antonia Lottner, who beat the defending Champion Viktorija Golubic in the third set tie-break by 7 points to 5.

Golubic, who dropped to No. 103 in the WTA Rankings, made several unforced errors in the key moments and so she won't be able to defend her title here. The first seeded player Caroline Garcia beat Elitsa Kostova 7-5 6-1 and will face Tereza Martincova next.

Garcia only struggled in the first set, then she dominated. Good win also for Johanna Larsson, who beat Viktorija Tomova 7-5 6-4 and will face Barbara Haas in the second round. Anett Kontaveit easily got past the Italian qualifier Martina Trevisan, while the eighth seeded player Evgeniya Rodina lost to Sara Sorribes Tormo in the third set Breaker.
