Anett Kontaveit's great 2017 season continues. The 21-year-old defeated Tereza Martincova 6-4 6-1 in an hour and 16 minutes to reach her third career-final after the one lost to Marketa Vondrousova in Biel this year and the one won to Natalia Vikhliantseva in 's-Hertogenbosch last month.
Kontaveit won 78% first serve points, while struggled on second serve, winning just five points on 20. Martincova only had chances in the first set, where she led 2-0. She lost six of the last eight games of the set and then in the second Kontaveit dominated it.
With this result, Anett achieves a career-high ranking at No. 26, she can become No. 23 if will win the final. It was still a good week for Martincova, who will be No. 116 (+24 than previous rankings) next week. She upset the first seeded player Caroline Garcia on Thursday.
On Sunday the Tallinn native will face the second seeded player Kiki Bertens, who only played six games to reach her fifth career-final. Her opponent Sara Sorribes Tormo retired after losing the first set 6/1 due to a left elbow injury.
Bertens will try to win her fourth title tomorrow after 2012 Fes, 2016 and 2017 Nurnberg, all of them on clay. Women's Singles Semifinal matches on Saturday:
