Krystina Pliskova had already not played well in her first round match on Tuesday, but she had managed to go through. Now in the second round the Czech player lost in straight sets to Kurumi Nara, who prevailed by 7-6(5) 6-1.
With this loss Pliskova drops 16 places, she will be at least No. 57 next week. Vera Zvonareva won her fourth match in a row. The Russian player, who started from the qualifiying draw, dropped off just two games to Pauline Parmentier, beaten by 6-2 6-0.
Zvonareva will play her first WTA quarter-final since 2015 Pattaya, she will bid to reach first semifinal since 2011 WTA Finals. Timea Babos beat Denisa Allertova 6-3 6-3 and will face Aleksandra Krunic, who defeated Jana Cepelova in three sets.
The third seed player Tatjana Maria was upset by Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets, and also the 2016 finalist and 2015 Tashkent winner Nao Hibino lost. Other two seeded players, Marketa Vondrousova and Ekaterina Alexandrova, are out.
