WTA HONG KONG - Pavlyuchenkova, will face Wang. Gavrilova, Brady through- View: 1342 by Gatto Luigi
The 18-year-old American Jennifer Brady reached her first WTA semifinal beating her fellow compatriot Nicole Gibbs 7-5 6-4. In the first set Gibbs served on 5-4 but was broken at 15, then the second set was always on Brady's side.
In the semifinals she will face Daria Gavrilova, who defeated her fellow compatriot Lizette Cabrera 6-4 in the third set. It has been a few good months for Gavrilova, who won her first career-title in New Haven in August. Qiang Wang upset Samantha Stosur by 7-5 6-2.
The Chinese player saved two set points in a row down 4-5 in the first set, which was the key of the match. In the semifinals Wang will face Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who defeated Naomi Osaka 6-3 6-3. The Japanese was pretty unconsistant, she hit nome double faults and wasn't as good as enough to take it at least to a decider.
World No. 21 Pavlyuchenkova can break into the top 20 Rankings at No. 18 again by winning the title. Quarterfinal matches results on Friday:
