WTA FINALS - Venus Williams defeats Muguruza to reach semifinals

Venus Williams defeated Garbine Muguruza 7-5 6-4 after an hour and 41 minutes, taking the revenge of Wimbledon final lost in July. In her first two serve games of the first set, Muguruza saved two break points in total, then broke Venus playing an aggressive tennis, forcing her opponent to miss balls.

Venus broke back to take it to 4-all and, leading 6-5, she converted her third set point in the game to win the set. At the beginning of the second set Muguruza was more consistent on serve, she kept playing well when Venus served and broke her opponent to lead 3-1.

The Spaniard didn't give up, broke back her opponent but on 4-5 Muguruza was broken again. Venus advanced to the semifinals as second of White Group, for the fifth time overall on five appearances at the event. She will face Caroline Wozniacki or Caroline Garcia on Saturday.

The 37-year-old confirms to be really one of the best players in the World this year on the big stage: after two finals and one semifinal in Grand Slams, another semis comes. Muguruza can't reach semis anymore, she won't end the year as World No. 1. The other semis will be between Karolina Pliskova and one between Halep, Garcia, Svitolina.
