Lots of bagels peppered the scoreline of the women's singles second round on Friday in Indian Wells. The day also had its share of upsets, with several big names sent packing in the tournament's early stages. Here's a quick summary of how the day's results came about: Fourth seed Sloane Stephens was the biggest casualty of the day alongside the likes of 14th seed Daria Kasatkina and 19th seed Caroline Garcia.
Stefanie Voegele defeated Stephens in straight sets 6-3, 6-0, while Marketa Vondrousova defeated the Russian – the defending finalist – 6-2, 6-1. Kasatkina's loss meant that she would be exiting the top-20. Brady, meanwhile, defeated Garcia for the third time this season (after Hua Hin and Dubai).
Seventh seed Kiki Bertens won her match against Magda Linette in straight sets. The Dutchwoman won 6-4, 6-1 to set up a clash against Britain's Jo Konta. Konta had earlier ousted the 27th seed Su-Wei Hsieh in straight sets.
Vondrousova will take on Jelena Ostapenko in the round-of-32. The Latvian came through in her second-round match against Shuai Zhang 6-2, 6-1. Brady will play 12th seed Ashleigh Barty in the third round. The Australian defeated Tatjana Maria 6-4, 6-4.
Kateryna Kozlova also came up with an upset of her own. The Ukrainian defeated 31st seed Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-4, 2-6, 6-0, and will play second seed Simona Halep in the third round. Halep had defeated Barbora Strycova in her second-round match earlier. Photo Credit: WTA Tennis
