The Ukrainian, who played her opening-round match against the Netherlands’ Bibiane Schoofs on Wednesday, defeated the Dutchwoman 6-2, 6-4 in one hour and 19 minutes. She will take on Australian qualifier Storm Sanders in the pre-quarter-finals.

After her win, Svitolina said, “It was a bit windy but we are both in the same conditions, so I just tried to focus on what I have to do on the court. I tried to really fight for every single point and I think in the end, I found my game and I played a very solid match”.

In the final first-round match, fifth seed Magda Linette defeated Kateryna Bondarenko 6-2, 6-2 in 66 minutes. She plays Shuai Peng in the second round. Photo Credit: WTA Twitter
