Former World No. 5 Lucie Safarova officially concluded her career as professional tennis player in late May, after playing her last doubles match in the first round at Roland Garros. As it happened some weeks before with Spanish star David Ferrer, the Czech’s retirement made the headlines, and several farewell ceremonies were organized in her honor.
Barely a month later, the 2015 French Open finalist is back under the spotlight, this time for a wholly different reason. "When I finished my career I was thinking if I will miss the happiness of winning…” The doubles legend wrote on her Twitter and Instagram.
“Now I know there is much bigger happiness in life! When I first saw the pumping heart of our baby on ultrasound it beat it all!" Safarova shared the message along with a tender picture of her and Tomas Plekanec.
The former NHL player also made the good news public on his Instagram, “Another big chapter… Very happy we are expecting a baby with Lucie Safarova! I went through lots of ups and downs in my hockey career and in my life.
Not everything went as I planned to, but when you get through it something nice comes up!” According to iDNES, the couple was already aware of Safarova's pregancy before the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in April, but preferred to say nothing.
The Czech managed to reach the tournament’s doubles finals. The 32-year-old’s news comes shortly after Ana Ivanovic’s similar one.
