Almost a month after her induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame, Mary Pierce’s excitement and happiness are still as vivid as they were on July 25th. The Frenchwoman has lived an “unforgettable experience,” as she described it during an interview with the Rogers Cup team in Toronto.
Pierce is still not done with getting pleasantly surprised by the aftereffects of her induction, and the message that she shared on Twitter prove it. “I received many incredible messages from my tennis colleagues, family, friends & fans about my Tennis Hall of Fame induction,” wrote the Roland Garros champion on August 16th.
“This one from Chris Evert is particularly special as she is the player I looked up to the most. Thank you Chrissie, your kind words mean so much to me!” Under Pierce’s text was a video of Chris Evert, produced by the Tennis Hall of Fame.
In the short film, the 18-time Grand Slam champion said, “Congratulations, Mary, I’m so proud of you. It’s such a thrill to see you inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Very well deserved. I remember watching you win the French Open, win the Australian Open.
You had such integrity and humility out there, and those two qualities really, really impressed me. Also, you’re very stylish, I have to give you that too. You know I know that you went through a really though time, in your life and during your tennis career, and you came out of it such a lovely and involved woman.
When I see you now, I can’t believe you’re the little girl with the pigtails, and the braces, and the glasses that I used to know. Well done, and again: I’m so proud of you and happy for you."
