Toni Nadal: I never imagined Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer would achieve so much

Toni Nadal admitted he could have never imagined that Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer would achieve as much as they did. Nadal, 35, and 40-year-old Federer are tied with Novak Djokovic on the all-time Grand Slam record list as each own 20 Grand Slams in their collection.

Nadal and Federer have been competing against each other for nearly two decades and they will go down in history as two of the greatest players to have ever played the game. “I could never have imagined that they would achieve as much as they did,” Toni said of Nadal and Federer, as quoted on Tennis Majors.

“Federer, yes, we saw that he would be one of the best in history — because he does everything well. When I saw that Rafael at [23 or 24 years old] had already [won every] Grand Slam, I started to think that he could win a lot and that he could aspire to be one of the best."

Nadal, Federer recovering from injuries

Nadal called it a season in August to focus on recovering from a foot injury, while Federer ended his season prematurely to undergo a knee surgery. "I have the goal of improving and facing a process that is going to be difficult, painful at some point, but I have to do it to fight for what I want.

And I am determined to do it,'' Nadal said recently. Nadal has been battling a foot issue since 2005 and he is determined to once again make a successful comeback. "The injury is nothing new. It is the same injury that I have had since 2005.

In that moment, the doctors were very negative about my future career, but I was able to have a career that I never dreamed about. So I am confident that I will recover again the foot and if the foot is better, I am confident that my tennis and my mentality will be there again soon," Nadal noted.
