Pat Cash speaks on Rafael Nadal's impressive French Open record

1987 Wimbledon champion Pat Cash says it's "incredible" that Rafael Nadal has managed to win 13 French Open titles. Nadal, 35, is a record 13-time French Open champion and his dominance at Roland Garros has been well documented.

Winning 13 French Open is considered as one of the most impressive achievements in all sports. Nadal, who was hampered by a foot issue throughout the 2021 season, failed to win the French Open this year. Nadal lost to Novak Djokovic in the semifinal and that was just his third ever loss at Roland Garros.

"Think of any football team that is simply unbeatable in any stadium or someone who wins the Tour de France year after year. Nadal's 13 Roland Garros titles are incredible. If you had said that 20 years ago, they would have locked you in a mental hospital," Cash said, per Tennis Up To Date.

Nadal aims more Grand Slam success

At last week's Mubadala World Tennis Championships, Nadal made it clear he is still playing because he wants more success. Former world No. 2 Alex Corretja knows Nadal isn't in an ideal spot but he insists the Spaniard can't be written off.

"Rafa will retire being a winner, whatever happens. No matter how he was before, he has to assess how he wants to face what he has left from now on, but being Rafa you always have the feeling that he still has a bullet in his chamber to do something great.

You can never doubt special people like him, even if he comes from a very long injury and the process that he will have now will be difficult, I trust that there is still that great title to celebrate with him. A great title I mean a Grand Slam, because a Masters 1,000 more or less is not going to change anything. As for being number 1, it will be quite difficult because for that he needs to play," Corretja told Marca.
