Victoria's Acting Minister for Sport: I'm sort of Rafael Nadal person

Victoria's acting minister for tourism, sport and major events Jaala Pulford admitted she is a Rafael Nadal and Ashleigh Barty fan. The Australian Open is set to get underway in just over a week and Pulford has her favorites.

"The tennis can begin and we will have a terrific event," Pulford said, per Sportskeeda. "I'm sort of more of a Rafa person, to be perfectly honest. And I am mad for [Ashleigh] Barty, so that is where I am going to be."

Pulford also commented on the Novak Djokovic situation, saying no one gets special treatment -- not even Djokovic. "A lot of people in the Victorian community will find this a disappointing outcome, but the process is the process," Pulford said.

"Nobody has special treatment. The process is incredibly robust."

Djokovic's visa was cancelled and he was told to leave the country but he appealed the decision.

“I think if he (had) wanted, he would be playing here in Australia without a problem,” Nadal said. “He went through another…he made his own decisions, and everybody is free to take their own decisions, but then there are some consequences.

“Of course I don’t like the situation that is happening. In some way I feel sorry for him. But at the same time, he knew the conditions since a lot of months ago, so he makes his own decision." Nadal contracted COVID-19 last month and he admitted he went through a rought few days.

“I went through the COVID. I have been vaccinated twice. If you do this, you don’t have any problem to play here. That’s the only clear thing. The only for me clear thing is if you are vaccinated, you can play in the Australian Open and everywhere, and the world in my opinion have been suffering enough to not follow the rules," Nadal added.
