Damir Dzumhur devalues Rafael Nadal's Australian Open victory

Damir Dzumhur wasn't impressed by Rafael Nadal's victory at the Australian Open as he said anyone can win a Grand Slam without Novak Djokovic in it. Record nine-time Australian Open champion Djokovic didn't get a chance to play at the Australian Open after the Australian authorities canceled his visa.

Nadal created a historic comeback in the Australian Open final to beat Daniil Medvedev 2-6 6-7 (5) 6-4 6-4 7-5. Nadal broke the all-time Grand Slam record as he now has 21 Grand Slams in his collection. Djokovic and Roger Federer didn't play in Melbourne and they remain at 20 Grand Slams each.

"Anyone can win a Grand Slam without Novak Djokovic competing. Still the GOAT Djoker," Dzumhur said in an Instagram Story.

Nadal made tennis history

Nadal was on the verge of losing as Medvedev had a two-set lead and three consecutive break points in the sixth game of the third set.

Nadal saved all three break points and won three sets in a row to pull off a stunning comeback. Nadal described the match as one of the most emotional matches of his career. “It was one of the most emotional matches of my career,” Nadal said during the trophy ceremony.

“To share the court with Daniil was just an honour. It is amazing. To be honest, one and a half months ago I wasn’t sure if was able to be back on the Tour playing tennis again. But today I am here in front of all of you with this trophy in front of me.

You are just amazing, thank you so much”. The crowd wanted Nadal to win and Nadal thanked them for their support after his victory. “Having the huge support I received over the past three weeks is going to stay in my heart for the rest of my life, so thank you very much,” Nadal added.
