Feliciano Lopez, Fernando Verdasco join Rafael Nadal in Acapulco

Spain's Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco have both been awarded wildcards into Acapulco, per Michal Samulski.

Lopez, 40, is set to make his seventh appearance in Acapulco.

Lopez debuted at the Acapulco event in 2014, when he made the round-of-16. Lopez has played in Acapulco in every year since 2017. Lopez's best result in Acapulco came in 2018, when he made the quarterfinal before losing to Jared Donaldson.

On the other side, 38-year-old Verdasco is set to make his sixth Acapulco appearance. Verdasco is a two-time runner-up in Acapulco as he lost the finals at the tournament in 2004 and 2012.

Now record 21-time Grand Slam champion Nadal is set to highlight this year's player field in Acapulco.

Nadal, who captured a record 21st Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, is expected to play his first event since the Australian Open in Acapulco. "I signed up for Acapulco and Indian Wells, but I have to make a decision that are in accordance with what my body allows me to do.

Acapulco is the closer one, I would like to be there but I have to see what are the perspective," Nadal said days after winning the Australian Open. Lopez, a former world No. 12, has yet to win a match this year. On the other side, Verdasco clinched his first ATP win of the season after beating Hugo Dellien in the Buenos Aires first round last week.

"I had been playing top level tournaments for 18 years, so the transition has been difficult. But I had to accept it, My elbow and knee have recovered well and now I'm finding my rhythm and gaining confidence. I think I still have the tennis and the energy to win matches on the ATP Tour," Verdasco said after clinching his first win of the season in Buenos Aires. The Acapulco event takes place next week.
