Carlos Moya hits out at Patrick Mouratoglou over his take on Rafael Nadal

Coach Carlos Moya thought Patrick Mouratoglou's comments on Rafael Nadal were a bit disrespectful. When discusssing Nadal's French Open chances, Mouratoglou said there is a real unknown regarding the Spaniard's chances at Roland Garros this year.

Nadal, who sustained a rib injury in the Indian Wells semiifnal, was forced to skip the beginning of the clay season as he didn't compete in Monte Carlo and Barcelona. Mouratoglou explained that Nadal usually loves to play a lot leading up to the French Open and that this year he will not arrive to Roland Garros well prepared.

“Rafael Nadal is not going to play many matches, and it is extremely rare that he arrives at Roland Garros with so few matches. So, for Roland-Garros, there is a real unknown for him. Despite his incredible start to the season, he is a player who has always needed to play a lot (before Roland Garros).

He will not reach the top," Mouratoglou told France Info.

Moya to Mouratoglou: Nadal deserves more respect

"17 years in a row top 10, Roland Garros'20 with 3 matches in 7 months, Australian Open'22 with 3 matches in 6 months...

a little respect and memory @pmouratoglou," Moya tweeted.

Last year, Nadal failed to win a record 14th French Open title.

Nadal has been beaten only three times at the French Open throughout his career. Nadal's first French Open loss came in 2009, when he was stunned by Robin Soderling in the round-of-16. Six years later, Nadal was beaten by Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinal.

Nadal didn't win the French Open in 2016 but he exited the event after pulling out of the tournament following his second round defeat. Last year, Nadal picked up his third French Open defeat after losing to Djokovic.

Nadal clinched a record 21st Grand Slam title at the Australian Open earlier this year and he will certainly be extremely motivated to win the French Open for the 14th time.
