Spanish tennis superstar Rafael Nadal says Carlos Alcaraz is better positioned to beat Novak Djokovic than he would have been. On Friday, Alcaraz clinched the biggest victory of his career as he beat record 21-time Grand Slam champion Nadal 6-2 1-6 6-3 in the Madrid quarterfinal.
It was the third meeting between the two and Alcaraz's first win over Nadal. Nadal beat Alcaraz in Madrid last year and also defeated the 19-year-old this past March in Indian Wells. This week, Nadal was playing his first clay tournament of the clay season.
On the other side, Alcaraz has won two titles on clay this season so it shouldn't be a surprise to hear Nadal say Alcaraz is in better position to beat Djokovic than he would have been. "Carlos can win perfectly. I don't see any reason why he cannot win.
It's true that he cannot have the downside that he had on the second set today, but he plays with a lot of adrenaline," Nadal said, per Jose Morgado.

Nadal happy for Alcaraz
Alcaraz has been drawing attention since the start of the season and many are comparing him to Nadal.
Alcaraz grew up idolizing Nadal but several times he noted that he just wants to be the best possible version of Carlos Alcaraz. After losing to Alcaraz, Nadal admitted that Alcaraz was the better player. “Happy for Carlos.
He was better in various aspects. I need to get better like I said previously. I accept that. I have two and a half weeks to get ready to have real options in Paris," Nadal said.
