Cameron Norrie comments on Carlos Alcaraz beating Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic

Top-ranked British tennis player Cameron Norrie said it was impressive what Carlos Alcaraz pulled off in Barcelona and then Madrid. In Barcelona, Alcaraz saved two match points in a semifinal thriller versus Alex De Minaur, before beating Pablo Carreno Busta in the final.

Alcaraz played his Barcelona semifinal match and then the final on the same day. "For someone just turned 19, what he did in Barcelona as well, playing back-to-back matches, playing 3 hours 40 with De Minaur, coming out and chopping Carreno in the final, doing that and having that physicality at that age is impressive," Norrie said, per Sportskeeda.

"I'm 26, and I play 3 hours 30 in Barcelona and had to play 2 hours, and I was cooked."

After winning his first Barcelona title, Alcaraz lifted his first Madrid title. In Madrid, Alcaraz beat Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in back-to-back matches, before defeating Alexander Zverev in the final.

Before beating three top-5 players, Alcaraz defeated Norrie in the Madrid round-of-16. "For me to see him doing that, not only having the physicality but having the ability mentally to concentrate, then also backing it up and beating Nadal, backing up the next day and beating Djokovic, then chopping Zverev.

It's impressive, and it's cool for the sport," Norrie said. After winning Barcelona and Madrid, Alcaraz decided to skip Rome. Alcaraz sprained his ankle in Madrid and he didn't want to risk aggravating his ankle issue by playing Rome.

Alcaraz made it clear that his goal for the French Open is to win his first Grand Slam title. "I think that, you know, given the state of my feet and my ankle, I am really excited for fighting for a Grand Slam. I think that it's better to rest, to recover my ankle, recover my feet, to be in Paris at 100%," Alcaraz said.
