Zsombor Piros: I wouldn't have much chance but I'd like to play Rafael Nadal at RG

Hungarian tennis player Zsombor Piros revealed he would absolutely love to play Rafael Nadal or Stefanos Tsitsipas at the French Open. Piros, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 189 in the world, was hoping to make his French Open debut this year but he failed to make it past the qualifying event.

In the qualifying final round, Piros was beaten by Nuno Borges. Piros is enjoying his best season on the ATP Tour and he was hoping to make his Grand Slam debut at Roland Garros. “I have two favourites to play. I know I don’t have much of a chance, but it would be a great experience to play with Rafa (Nadal), that’s everyone’s goal I think, and also (Stefanos) Tsitsipas," Piros said before losing to Borges in the qualifying final round.

Piros: I like the games of Nadal and Tsitsipas

Of course, Nadal is considered as the greatest clay court player ever. On the other side, Tsitsipas is someone who is definitely capable of playing well on clay. Tsitsipas won back-to-back Monte Carlo titles in 2021 and 2022, while he ended runner-up at the French Open last year.

“I like their games a lot and I like to play against one-handed (backhand) guys. I just want to know what it feels like to take on players like this. Court Philippe-Chatrier against them would be the dream," Piros added.

Meanwhile, Nadal is facing fitness issues ahead of the French Open. Still, renowned tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou thinks Nadal is among top favorites for the title. "Of course, Rafael Nadal. He is known as the King of Clay and winning this year's Roland Garros would mean taking a two-title lead on Roger and Novak in the GOAT race.

But he didn't have a great clay court in preparation for the French and didn't look in too good physical shape against Shapovalov in Rome," Mouratoglou said.
