Tamira Paszek jokes: How ironic Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal are from same country

Former world No. 26 Tamira Paszek has spoken extremely highly of Carlos Alcaraz as she thinks the 19-year-old has "the nerves of steel." Alcaraz, who turned 19 this month, has been one of the best players on the ATP Tour this season.

Alcaraz has won four titles, including Masters victories in Miami and Madrid, and he is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 6 in the world. Now, many are curious to see if Alcaraz can win his first Grand Slam at Roland Garros.

"Who knows maybe he (Carlos Alcaraz) is," Paszek said on the ATP Tennis Radio Podcast, per Sportskeeda. "I mean to me he really looks like he has nerves of steel and the way he has been playing and the way he has been performing in big tournaments, the biggest ones on tour, in finals was, yeah, I’m at a loss of words!

So I do believe that anything is possible for him this year."

Paszek on the Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal comparison

Alcaraz has proved that he is capable of playing extremely well on hard and clay. It will be interesting to see how Alcaraz does on grass but many believe he can play on grass as well.

"First of all, how ironic that they’re both from Spain! (laughs) I do believe that he has the ability to do really, really well, especially on clay but also on hardcourts and looking into this year’s Roland Garros, I think he has big chances yes," Paszek said.

Paszek, a two-time Wimbledon quarterfinalist, reveals she is a fan of Alcaraz's game and loves watching the 19-year-old Spaniard. "I have been watching a lot of his matches lately and it’s just pure bliss watching him, I mean he’s not a kid anymore obviously but just turned 19," Paszek added.

"His rise to the top of the tennis level has been just outstanding and happened so quickly, but it’s just beautiful to see the fire in his eyes as you just mentioned and the pleasure he has being on court, the fighting spirit, the sliding ability, the movement on court, it’s just, yeah, outstanding."
