Rafael Nadal matches Novak Djokovic's age record

Since the start of the Open era, 65 places in Major finals have been reserved for players who have turned 30. Four players are the dominant figures on that list, occupying 36 of those 65 spots. Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Ken Rosewall and Roger Federer are the only players with at least eight Major finals after turning 30.

It will take some beating for the upcoming "veterans" if they want to join them. Rosewall was 33 when the Open era started, and he did his best to extend his career and reach eight Major finals. The great Aussie is a proud owner of many age achievements, and his name takes six out of 11 places among the oldest Major finalists.

There was no one to follow Rosewall's record in the upcoming decades before Federer, Nadal and Djokovic reached 30 between 2011 and 2017. Federer's first Major final after turning 30 came at Wimbledon 2012, and he remained competitive until 2019 to secure the eighth title match and catch Ken Rosewall.

Novak Djokovic turned 30 in May 2017, and his first final in this group came at Wimbledon a year later. Novak was a player to beat at Majors until the end of 2021, advancing into ten finals after turning 30 to leave Rosewall and Federer behind.

Rafael Nadal needed only three years to collect seven Major finals after turning 30, looking good to top the charts in the following seasons. The Spaniard made only one final in 2020 and 2021 to lose ground to Djokovic before returning at his best in the current season.

Rafael Nadal is the second player with ten Majors final after turning 30.

Rafa is yet to lose a match at Majors in 2022, conquering the Australian Open and Roland Garros to reign with 22 Major crowns. Thus, Nadal matched Djokovic's record and became the second player in the Open era with ten Major finals after his 30th birthday.

Rafa's tenth Major final after turning 30 came two weeks ago at Roland Garros, overcoming seven rivals and a foot injury to lift the 14th Parisian trophy and regain the crown lost to Novak Djokovic a year ago. Nadal overpowered Felix Auger-Aliassime, Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev to advance into his 30th Major final.

Casper Ruud stood between Nadal and the title, and the Spaniard earned a 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 triumph to wrap up another impressive Parisian campaign and secure numerous achievements.
