World No. 1 Iga Swiatek says it is "amazing" what Rafael Nadal is doing as she thinks it is inspiring to see how the Spaniard is overcoming the adversities and still winning a lot. The past year hasn't been easy for Nadal health-wise but still he has managed to win this year's Australian Open and French Open.
"It's amazing what he's doing. I watched the Australian Open final live and I could see all the work he is doing to stay at his best. Even when he's not even playing his best tennis, he manages to show courage and find solutions on the court.
The way he deals with injuries and the tremendous pain he is in is hugely inspiring. There are few inspiring athletes like Rafa," Swiatek said, per We Love Tennis.
Swiatek hoping to win her first Wimbledon title
After winning the French Open, Swiatek pulled out of Berlin and decided not to play any grass events leading up to Wimbledon.
Instead, Swiatek used some time to rest following a couple of very demanding months. Swiatek hasn't lost since mid-February as she has arrived to Wimbledon riding a 35-match winning streak. Swiatek suffered a first round defeat at Wimbledon in 2019 but reached the round-of-16 last year.
“For sure I want to use the experience that I had on grass, but I don’t know if it’s giving me a lot in terms of all the atmosphere that is here,” she said. “Right now we’re even in different locker rooms and, yeah, I stayed at Aorangi during that tournament.
I still feel like I need to experience more”. Swiatek will be starting her Wimbledon campaign against qualifier Jana Fett. Swiatek and Fett have no previous meetings. Swiatek has become a dominant force on hard and clay as many are curious to see how will she play at The Championships.
