United star David de Gea 'amazed' by Rafael Nadal's stunning Wimbledon victory

Spanish football star David de Gea was in awe of what Rafael Nadal pulled off during his Wimbledon match versus Taylor Fritz. Nadal, 36, entered the match as the favorite but it was evident that he was hampered by something and he lost the opener.

In the second set, Nadal called a medical timeout and left the court so the doctor could check out on his abdominal injury. After returning to the court, it was clear that Nadal's serve was impacted by the injury. Still, Nadal found a way to win as he beat Fritz 3-6 7-5 3-6 7-5 7-6 (4).

"Is not human, Rafael Nadal," Manchster United goalkeeper de Gea tweeted.

Nadal gave credit to Fritz after the match

Nadla started his year with 20 consecutive wins before he was beaten by Fritz in the Indian Wells Masters final.

Fritz entered the match confident he could beat Nadal again but the Spaniard found a way to end on the winning side this time and to make amends for the loss he suffered to the American a few months ago. “It was a tough afternoon against a great player," said Nadal in his on-court interview.

"All the credit to Taylor, he has been playing great during the whole season. From my personal side, it was not an easy match at all, so I’m just very happy to be in the semi-finals. The body in general is fine. In the abdominal [area] it is not going well, being honest.

I had to find a way to serve a little bit differently, for a lot of moments I was thinking maybe I would not be able to finish the match, but I don’t know. The court, the energy [helped me]”. In the Wimbledon semifinal, Nadal was scheduled to play Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios.

What was feared became a reality when Nadal announced on Thursday that he was withdrawing from the tournament due to an abdominal injury.
