Rafael Nadal reveals his memory of Roger Federer

Rafael Nadal says Roger Federer will forever be remembered as someone "unique" and as one of the biggest gentlemen in sports history. Federer, 41, retired from tennis after the Laver Cup. Besides being one of the greatest to ever do it on a tennis court, Federer was also known as one of the classiest sportsmen.

In an interview for Onda Cero Radio, Nadal revealed his memory of Federer. "In the end, there remains the memory of someone who I believe is unique not only for what he has done but also for the way in which he has done it, with elegance and majesty and I would also say with an elegant manner on a human level as well," Nadal said, as translated from Spanish to English by Twitter user Genny SS.

Nadal on Federer: One of the greatest icons in tennis history

"One of the greatest icons in the history of sports is leaving.

And ultimately you live it with sadness, too," Nadal said. "I said it the other day, in the end it's leaving someone who has entertained, moved and inspired many people in the world and somehow I am also one of them."

For the final match of his career, Federer expressed a desire to team up with Nadal. Nadal accepted as Federer retired by playing alongside the Spaniard in his final match. After the match was over, Nadal broke down in tears and in one moment was caught holding hands with Federer.

"To tell you the truth, I don't even remember that moment, honestly. I have not seen the images," Nadal reflected. "This is the reality. And well, in the end, if I'm honest, there were moments that were difficult because somehow I didn't want to cry either."

It was a perfect send-off for Federer, who was accompanied by Nadal and some of his biggest rivals in his final tournament.
