Corentin Moutet: Playing Rafael Nadal at French Open is biggest challenge in tennis

Corentin Moutet said he was "lucky" to get a chance to play against Rafael Nadal at the French Open. In the first round of this year's French Open, Moutet beat three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka. After beating Wawrinka, Moutet got a chance to play another Grand Slam champion as he took on Nadal next.

Against Nadal, Moutet didn't really stand much of a chance as the Spaniard routinely won 6-3 6-1 6-4. After beating Moutet, Nadal went on to win a record 14th French Open title. "It was lucky to play against someone like him in Paris, where he has displayed the best level of his career.

It is the biggest challenge I can find in tennis. I am very proud to have won the previous matches and move up in the ranking. It was a great experience. I went out there to win of course, that's my job and my ambitious mentality, but at the same time I was happy to be there.

I have no regrets from this match," Moutet told Punto de Break.

Moutet hopes for more great moments in 2023

Moutet, 23, finished the 2022 season on his career-high ranking of No 51 in the world. This year, Moutet made the Adelaide International semifinal and he also reached the Paris Masters round-of-16 as a qualifier.

Moutet took a positive step in 2022 and now he is hoping to continue his rise next year. "Keep working hard, try to avoid injuries and stay healthy. Now I have a new team, so we get to know each other more in depth. We have to find the perfect balance between hard work and rest.

That is the big goal. If I succeed, I'm sure I'll have great results. In the end, I think the ranking will be good, as will my performance," Moutet said.
