Rafael Nadal congratulated Feliciano Lopez on "an amazing career" in a video tribute that was played after the 41-year-old Spaniard played the final match of his career. Lopez, a former world No 12, saw his career officially come to an end on Thursday after he suffered a straight-set defeat to Yannick Hanfmann in the Mallorca quarterfinal.

Lopez, who turned pro in 1997, was pretty consistent throughout his career as he was a regular participant in the main-level events. "Congratulations, you’ve had an amazing career. Good, long and steady. You have fulfilled the dream of dedicating yourself to what you dreamed of since you were little.

You have been a super outstanding player in a world as super competitive as tennis. Many congratulations, it has a lot of merit to have achieved everything you have achieved and to maintain it for so long. On a personal level, I can only congratulate you," Nadal told Lopez in the tribute.

Together, Lopez and Nadal shared some good moments together. Apart from winning seven ATP titles, Lopez also won four Davis Cup titles with Spain as he and Nadal played a part in Spain's Davis Cup wins in the 21st century.

But now, the time has come for Lopez to focus on some other things in life. After concluding the final tournament of his career, Lopez thanked to everyone who helped his tennis journey. “I never thought this moment would come.

I want to thank the tournament for allowing me to retire in my country. I have always tried to do my best to make the fans happy. Thank you all for being here today. My father was the crazy guy who started all this. He put a racquet in my hands and look how it ended. I want to thank him," Lopez said after the match.
