Toni Nadal acknowledges Rafael Nadal may find himself in a challenging situation when he returns since he won't be a seeded player and could potentially face top players early in tournaments. Nadal, who hasn't played since this year's Australian Open, has plummeted to No 240 in the world.

Nadal, a former world No 1, is hoping to be ready for the start of the 2024 season and the Australian Open. If Nadal plays at the Australian Open, he won't be a seed and could potentially meet players like Novak Djokovic or Carlos Alcaraz in the first round or some of the early rounds. “He is aware that the situation is complicated.

Let’s say he manages to get to Australia, it won’t be easy to compete again with an added problem. He won’t be a top seed, and from the very beginning he could face a high-level player. When Rafa plays a Grand Slam and faces a manageable opponent in the beginning, he gains momentum and becomes dangerous starting from the quarter-finals," Toni Nadal told Onda Cero.

Boris Becker thinks Nadal needs to play at the Australian Open

When Nadal returns, he probably won't expect to win the Australian Open because that may be too much for someone who has been out for a year. But there is no doubt that Nadal will be hoping to make a really strong run at his beloved French Open.

Just recently, Becker explained why Nadal needs to play the Australian Open. "Rafa is one of the most important players of all time, and a player like that has to stop on the court, not because of an injury. The family has to play along, he has a wife and now also a small son.

Everyone has to join in to support him. Nadal should go back on the court and play well. As far as I'm concerned, he can win big tournaments again," Becker recently said on Eurosport's Das Gelbe vom Ball.
