Toni Nadal says he has "great faith" in Rafael Nadal rising to the occasion and doing well in what will be "the hardest comeback" of the Spaniard's career. Throughout his career, 37-year-old Nadal has made successful post-injury comebacks numerous times.

But this time, it has been a year since Nadal last played and in early June he will be turning 38. Nadal, who surgically addressed his psoas muscle injury in June, announced on Friday that his 2024 comeback will start at the Brisbane International.

"Very excited to see @rafaelnadal compete again. Even knowing this time will be 'the hardest one yet,' I have great faith in him and believe he won’t disappoint," Toni Nadal wrote on Instagram.

For months, Nadal has been working on being ready to play again at the start of the 2024 season.

"After a year away from competition, it's time to come back. It will be in Brisbane the first week of January. I'll see you there," Nadal said in a video uploaded on his social media. When Nadal returns, he will have a protected ranking to use but he won't be a seeded player.

With that being said, there is a real possibility that Nadal may face top players early in tournaments. “He is aware that the situation is complicated. Let’s say he manages to get to Australia, it won’t be easy to compete again with an added problem.

He won’t be a top seed, and from the very beginning he could face a high-level player. When Rafa plays a Grand Slam and faces a manageable opponent in the beginning, he gains momentum and becomes dangerous starting from the quarter-finals," Toni Nadal told Onda Cero in early November. It will be interesting to see how will Nadal look in Brisbane, which takes place between December 31 - January 07.
