Andy Roddick pretty funnily recounted his 2009 Indian Wells Masters semifinal loss to Rafael Nadal as the American tennis legend revealed he was pretty annoyed with the loss before Mardy Fish told him about the money they could get by winning their Indian Wells doubles final that was scheduled to take place shortly after the singles final.

In 2009, Roddick - who was one of the top American players at the time - made his third semifinal in the desert. But for the third time, home favorite Roddick ended up losing in the Indian Wells semifinal stage after Nadal handed him a 6-4 7-6 (4) loss.

For Roddick, it was extremely disappointing to once again make a deep Indian Wells run but fail to make the final or win it all. But what's interesting about Roddick's 2009 Indian Wells singles exit was that he didn't have much time to regret or think about the loss because he was scheduled to return to the court just an hour later for the doubles final.

When Roddick hit the court with fellow American Fish, he was able to shake off the singles loss as he and his fellow compatriot defeated Max Mirnyi and Andy Ram 3-6 6-1 14-12 to win the 2009 Indian Wells doubles title

"I remember losing to Rafa at the semis and then coming off and I was like, 'Okay, we have an hour until we play doubles,' and you know, I'm like mad I lost to Rafa. It's the only North American event that I didn't end up winning," Roddick said on the Served with Andy Roddick podcast.

"I come off the court and I said to Mardy, 'What do we get if we win this match?', and he told me the number and I couldn't believe we were about to play two sets and a tiebreaker for that sum of money."

After becoming a doubles champion in Indian Wells, Roddick also made his first singles final in the desert in 2010. In what was his first and lone singles final in Indian Wells, Roddick lost to Ivan Ljubicic in straight sets.
