Speaking on Tennis Channel, former World No. 1 Andy Roddick reflected on Rafael Nadal’s schedule: “I’m sure the organisers of the tournament are super disappointed, and they definitely had Rafa playing Bastad when he was hurt, like in December of last year, on their bingo card.

This is great and listen you can’t … just no matter how great you are it’s tough to just waltz into the Olympics and play that level of tennis with, you know, a two-month gap in between.”

Rafael Nadal played for the last time in the first round of Roland Garros, a tournament in which he played against the German Alexander Zverev in three sets.

Nadal was confirmed by the Spanish captain, David Ferrer, as one of the members of the list of tennis players who will travel to France in the coming weeks to try to repeat the feats already achieved in Beijing 2008 and in Rio 2016 when he won gold in singles and then in doubles.

On the way to Nadal is also the ATP 250 Bastad a week before the Olympic event to be played on clay, a tournament where the Spanish will try to add competitive pace that allows him to regain confidence and automatisms to compete at the highest level.

The tournament of Bastad, in Sweden, is played from 15 to 21 July, an appointment in which the Spaniard was invited by the organization of the tournament.
