Without Murray and Wawrinka, many outsiders have the chance to reach a Masters 1000 semifinal. Albert Ramos, who defeated Andy Murray on Thursday, will face Marin Cilic, who is playing much better than he did in the first quarter of the season. The Croatian should be the favourite, we will see how and if Ramos recovers from the tough match against Murray. The most balanced match will probably be the one between Lucas Pouille and Pablo Cuevas. The French player bids to reach his second Masters 1000 semifinal after 2016 Rome, while Cuevas, who beat Wawrinka, will try to reach his first semifinal. The Uruguayan player reached the quarters in Indian Wells and is playing a great tennis.
Novak Djokovic is the seeded player who has probably the toughest match, against David Goffin that is playing very well this season not only on hard-courts. The Serbian player will need to raise his level and play much better than the previous two rounds, he leads head to head 5-0 (Goffin only won a set). The nine-time champion Rafael Nadal will play against Diego Schwartzman, beaten twice by the Spaniard player in 2013 Acapulco and 2015 US Open. If Rafa plays like he did against Zverev, it will be very tough for Schwartzman to win. See schedule here below:
