In 2017, David Goffin lost to Rafael Nadal in the Monte Carlo Masters semi-finals in straight sets. The Belgian player thinks the Spaniard is favourite heading into the event. 'He is coming back from an injury, but that's his best surface,' Goffin told Gazzetta dello Sport. 'He is now 100% for the clay season, he won ten times here and he is the player to beat. But every match is tough and we will play match-by-match.'
After withdrawing from Marseille and Indian Wells due to an eye injury, Goffin returned to competition in Miami winning just one game against Joao Sousa. Speaking about his health condition, he said that he was almost okay. 'It takes time to fully recover from my eye incident, but now I feel great and ready for Monte Carlo,' he added.
After reaching the final of the ATP World Tour Finals in London in 2017, how are the improvements he is targetting? 'I will try to improve in every moment, not to have accidents now, and we see at the end of the year what will be my ranking.'
