Richard Gasquet: 'I may have been better than Nadal at junior level'

Richard Gasquet and Rafael Nadal have been opponents for many years, since their younger days. The video of them playing against each other at the age of 13 in the French event Petit de As is quite popular on the internet.

'As a kid, I may have been better, not much, but on the professional tour it wasn't like this,' admitted Gasquet, a former world no. 7, in an interview to Marca. Nadal has a head-to-head of 15-0 against Gasquet.

Is it that difficult to beat him? 'I am aware that I have never beaten him, it's very difficult to manage to do it. He is a lefty, has a good backhand, a great forehand, is very competitive. I hope to beat him at least once.' A Spaniard has won ten French Opens.

Do they hate or love him in the country? 'Rafa is a (well) loved tennis player in France. He is a good person, with a good attitude on court. He never had an arrogant gesture towards the crowd, who idolise him a lot.' ALSO READ: Rome Open overcame Roger Federer issue, says organizer
