In an interview to Esto the Mexican young player Emilio Nava recalled on how it felt to play the Mexican Open in Acapulco in February. "It was incredible to be in the same tournament as David Ferrer and Rafa Nadal", admitted Nava.
"Ferrer is my idol, I could say hi to him, he wished me luck. I will never forget it. I admire him a lot, the way he works in rallies, he does not give you anything for free and he never stops fighting." He also enjoyed his experience in Acapulco: "It's like my second home, I have a family and I love people here, they are very passionate, I was very happy to play against them."
On how it would feel to join the country's Davis Cup team, he added; "I never thought about it, I am very focused on my tennis. But if the opportunity comes in the future, I will have to think about it with my team.
In Mexico, you have a ton of talent, very good players like Lucas (Gómez) and Gerardo (Villaseñor). I think I can do something important for the Mexican tennis", said Nava, who also described as something "unreal" the opportunity to play the Australian Open junior final losing to the Italian Lorenzo Musetti in a third set tie-break. Nadal lost to Nick Kyrgios in his second match in Acapulco, while Ferrer was beaten by Alexander Zverev
