The former WTA player Chanda Rubin previewed the upcoming quarter-final match in Montreal between Rafael Nadal and Fabio Fognini. Rubin said: "Fognini is a shot maker and he is so much funny to watch. He is one of the most skilled guys out there and in terms of what he can do within points and rallies, mentally though that's where Rafa has the advantage in most cases but Fognini, how many players can say they have beaten Rafa three times on clay? He is a guy who believes he can go toe to toe with Rafa and certainly on these hard courts I would give him maybe a little more of a chance although red clay is Fognini's favorite surface but it will be an interesting match mentally from that standpoint.
I was surprised that against Pella Rafa got broken one time in the second set, so Fognini can generate some dips and he can gave some shot." James Blake added: "I think we know what to expect from Rafa mentally and a little bit even more of the intensity because of the revenge factor losing to him in Monte Carlo.
But Fognini is the wild card, you never know what to expect, but he always gets damped to play Rafa Nadal beating him four times coming back from two sets to love at the US Open one time. So he has the motivation and we will see the good Fabio tomorrow. I am looking forward to a great match with two shot makers."
