Dominic Thiem held a press conference on Monday in Vienna promoting the Erste Bank Open. Speaking of the Austrian event, the two-time French Open finalist said: "I will do everything as possible to enjoy this unique environment as long as possible.
Unfortunately, it will not be easy because the field is a stunning one. There are so many great players that you could even lose in the first round." The Tournament Director Herwig Straka added: "There is a mixture of very good names that are at the peak of their career and so they are also very attractive for the crowd and the next generation of stars, there will also be many Austrian guys even if the interest will mostly be on Dominic.
When you come to the Erste Bank Open, whatever the day is, you know that you will see champions." On Rafael Nadal's US Open final win over Daniil Medvedev, Thiem said: "I didn't watch it. I rarely watch any tennis once I'm out of the tournament.
Medvedev will be a tough guy to beat for sure." He also spoke about his health condition: "I am back to normalcy like it should be. I did some controls in New York and from that I took a bit of rest at home. I can definitely recover better in Austria."
The Davis Cup captain Stefan Koubek said: "I am happy Dominic turned fit. Of course, with a world no. 5 ranked player we are the favorites. But anything can happen in the Davis Cup. For example last year nobody expected us to beat Russia in Moscow."
