Rafael Nadal: 'Many people doubted that I could play for many years'

Rafael Nadal was asked if he ever had doubts during his career. The Spaniard replied: "Many people doubted that I could play for many years and I always doubt and always doubted. But here I am. I am happy with what I do and most of all, if my body allows me to train well on a daily basis, I like playing tennis, I enjoy the goals and the competition."

Asked if he prepared physically in a different way heading into the US Open Nadal replied: "No, nothing different. I tried having a similar preparation, taking times off after big tournaments like Australian Open, Roland Garros or Wimbledon.

The only thing I changed in the recent times is to work in a more specific way at home and then play tournaments." Asked if he sees himself older, Nadal added: "No, I do not feel older! I feel the way I am: I am 33 years old.

I always thought that I do not know when my last win will be. But I am in a good time. Simply, I am aware that the years go on and you do not lose the perspective of the situation. You have to take care of yourself more, pick better and if when you are younger you can keep playing and playing, as the years go on you have to be more selective and a bit more ready to choose the things that work better."
