In an interview with Marca, former player Sergio Casal spoke about the Challenger event the Sanchez-Casal Academy held this year for the second time. The Italian Salvatore Caruso won the title and cracked the top 100 rankings for the first time ever.
"It's a very long way, it takes hard work by all the Academy. After the past year, we improved a lot and our goal is to do even better. We got ready for the second edition when the previous one ended. You have to get information and see what it can go well or worse.
From this week we are preparing for the following edition, the third," said the Spaniard. On the Challengers' growth, Casal added: "The Spanish Tennis Federation helps us a lot to organize those tournaments because otherwise, it would not be possible.
You also have to mention the sponsors, of course. You see very interesting matches in the Challengers." Spanish generation: "This Challenger gives them a lot of opportunities, which is amazing. If you have those chances, it's very important, especially raising on the ATP Rankings."
On Rafael Nadal, Casal added: "Having someone like him on this planet will be very difficult or basically impossible." Casal, speaking to TennisTour Talk, added: "I think we improved a little bit. The second edition was a bit different compared to last year with a 48-man draw but we had the help from the weather.
No drops of rain this time. There were a lot of good matches and the people from the Academy were involved in the tournament, giving them the opportunity to learn and experience professional tennis." Nadal is committed to playing the Paris Masters next.
