In an interview to Ultima Hora Richard Mille, a founder of a watch brand named after him, spoke about how it felt to attend the wedding between his friend Rafael Nadal and Maria Francisca Perello. In 2010 Nadal signed a ten-year contract with Mille.
"It was good, there was a very simple environment, as always, just amazing, fantastic", said Mille of the marriage. How did the relationship between Mille and Nadal start? "I was seeing Rafael Nadal play and I loved his gamestyle.
The first contacts started in 2008 and it was not easy because he could not see himself with a watch. It was a challenge. I wanted to make him accept that he could play with a watch." Asked if the path was tough, Mille replied: "A lot.
Rafael started training with one of my watches in July 2009 with the idea of competing with it in the 2010 Roland Garros. There were many problems. Blood was coming out of his hand. We did multiple tests until we got a very light and comfortable watch.
What allowed us to go through all these difficulties was to believe in the project. When I founded the brand in 2001, everyone said that playing golf or tennis with a watch was impossible, but I wanted to prove the contrary.
And Rafa was the perfect ambassador. It was just 20 g. Now it is even less, 18. It is like a second skin for him. Of course he was wearing it during the wedding. His girlfriend Maria Francisca did not." We will see if Nadal will renew the deal with Mille next year
