In an interview to Efe Pablo Carreno Busta said he was not surprised in learning that he was nominated to play the Davis Cup Finals in Madrid from 18 to 24 November. The Spaniard will pair up on the same team as Rafael Nadal, Roberto Bautista Agut and Marcel Granollers.
Carreno Busta said: "Honestly I hoped to be on the team. I believed that if I was doing well physically and I was confident, my tennis level is very high. Once I left the injuries aside during the American swing I managed to reach my best level, and results are coming."
"Bruguera has not said anything, but I will be available for both singles and doubles if they need me. It's not easy to be at 100 percent all weeks and having an important competition like the ATP Finals and the Davis Cup back to back."
On Fernando Verdasco complaining for not being nominated, Carreno Busta concluded: "I think it's normal that it's sad not to be there, I understand his disappointment but not the way he did." Meanwhile the Russian coach Boris Sobkin spoke about the Davis Cup: "All the best players will be exhausted after a tough season, especially after the ATP Finals in London.
Some teams may be more tired than the Spaniards, but new players will be there. The same for Daniil Medvedev. He may reach Madrid, but will Daniil be able to get a good result there? And the same thing for the leaders of many teams, so Davis Cup is totally unpredictable.
Our group will feature Spain and apart that ties, crowds could be empty. If Spain will not reach the quarter-finals, crowds will not be packed. Then do not forget that in January a similar competition will be played, the ATP Cup.
All the strongest players will compete there while in Davis Cup some big teams have not qualified. So ATP Cup will be more interesting."
