Rafael Nadal: 'I need to play at my best level in order to beat Djokovic'

Rafael Nadal defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to reach the Paris Masters semifinals. The Spaniard player is satisfied with his performance but he admitted that he needs to improve in order to compete against Novak Djokovic in an eventual final.

The Mallorcan will face Denis Shapovalov on Saturday. "In the previous days I had not played so well. Today I played a very good match. It was a great first set and then in the tie-break it was about details. Then Jo got influenced mentally.

(Djokovic) is one of the best tennis players in history and he feels comfortable on this surface. I am aware that I have to play at my best level", said Nadal. "It's very important for me to reach the semifinals here.

Now I will face a player who is performing very well, he won in Stockholm, he defeated very good players and in a brilliant way. I need to play at my best level, otherwise I cannot win." Nadal scored straight sets wins not just against Tsonga but also Adrian Mannarino and Stan Wawrinka.

Djokovic will face Grigor Dimitrov for a place in the final. Gael Monfils lost to Denis Shapovalov. The Frenchman said: "Denis outplay me. It wasn't the best match I played. But I think I couldn't have do really better today, you know. I think I give everything I had, and Denis was just too good for me today."
