In an interview the Acapulco's Mexican Open Tournament Director Raul Zurutuza spoke about how it feels to have Rafael Nadal as the first player confirmed for the 2020 edition that will take place from 24 to 28 February.
"The truth is that we are very happy that Rafa comes back to Mexico, I think we were a bit sad for how he ended up this year (losing in the second round to Nick Kyrgios) and the crowd always had a great feedback when Rafa came.
He is a guarantee, the world No. 1 and we are very happy. Rafa is yet to win in Acapulco on hard courts and people would love to see him winning. We will have to see how he is doing, I think a good Rafa will come, we will see if he is number one, we are happy he comes back to our country", he said.
Zurutuza hopes to bring two more top ten players in the next weeks. Things will not be easy as the week after Acapulco tournament, Davis Cup play-off ties take place and certain European players may skip the Mexican event.
"We still do not know who, we have a couple of interesting possibilities. We are looking for the best guys as always." Zurutuza also hopes to have Juan Martin del Potro back: "We always said that the door is open for him, he will have to reassess how his knee is doing, which is the most important thing, wait how he recovers. I think he is coming back well and I would like to have him also through a wild card."
