Rafael Nadal: 'Playing after Bautista Agut's win was complicated'

Rafael Nadal spoke with Onda Cero about his Davis Cup triumph. "It has been an intense week on many aspects, physically and emotionally." On Roberto Bautista Agut, Nadal added: "It was unbelievable, not normal.

His mental strength all the time. He has been going through many disgraces for four years and to be honest he is an inspiration. It's something unique, special. For me, heading to play after his match was complicated. I was destroyed by all the emotions, the other day his father died and today he competed at the highest level.

There was a God justice in his match. I was nervous because it was a very important match for us but also for him. Being focused on my match took time." On the new format of the Davis Cup, Nadal added: "It was unique.

The format is amazing, it keeps all the fans involved all the time. You need to fix the schedule. It's a very open competition, there are many potential winners and that's what it makes special. A better win would have been impossible."

Denis Shapovalov is still satisfied with his week, as the Canadian said: "For me, it's tough to pick a specific memory. I think the whole week as a whole and, you know, everything we've done, all the practices, the car rides from and to the hotel, the dinners, everything we've done as a team has just been amazing.

And for me, it's one of those weeks that I'm going to look back and really have a good feeling about it. You know, one of those really fun weeks in my tennis career. And yeah, it's tough to pinpoint one specific moment when you have a week like this that everyone, you know, just put their hearts on the line every day for so long. And you know, we all just, like, bonded really well so..."
