World No. 1 Rafael Nadal claimed winning the Mubadala World Tennis Championship title "means a lot to me." The Spaniard edged out sixth- ranked Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-7 (3) 7-5 7-6 (3) in the Abu Dhabi exhibition final.
Nadal, 33, now has five Mubadala World Tennis Championship titles in his collection. "It’s a real pleasure to come here and to win a fifth title means a lot to me. I had a great match yesterday and a great match today.
Hopefully I can stay healthy and hopefully I will be back next year. The crowds have been amazing and it is a real pleasure to play in front of you all," Nadal said, per the tournament's website. Nadal paid the price for blowing two consecutive set points on his serve in the 10th game of the first set as Tsitsipas broke back the Spaniard, before winning the tie-break to steal the opener.
After failing to convert any of his two break points in the ninth game of the second set, Tsitsipas dropped his serve in the 12th game and lost the set. Nadal blew a third set break but kept his focus as he cruised past the tie-break to win the title.
